Term 1 update.

Well it's been a busy Term 1! We embraced Open Evening by transforming our department into an airport, celebrating our academic achievements with the BA Flag Award. We celebrated the European Week of Languages with themed assemblies, inspiring quotes as corridor visuals and quizzes and the like. The department staff have new Easi-Speak microphones so they are very happy. Thinking Schools initiative continues to form the foundation of our teaching and learning.  The students continue to inspire us with their achievements and they look forward to seeing who the current faces are on the 'Wokywood' Hall of Fame. Our year 9 students are also enjoying access to the foreign language assistants and we launch into Term 2 with as much fervour as the previous one. Till the next update! Miss Hardman

Elbeuf Work Experience Trip a Success!

The 2013 Elbeuf Work Experience Trip was a resounding success with all participants representing the school excellently whilst abroad. Students delivered English language lessons to primary school students, spent time in the local secondary school (Lycée André Maurois) on Saturday morning, and settled into life with their French families. The last day consisted of a trip to Paris where Monet was viewed, la Seine was sailed and the Eiffel Tower was climbed. Not bad for a day trip! The weather held out too. Lucky given the snow and rain that had fallen the previous week. Well done to all participants for doing us proud. (The staff too had their work cut out as they spent the week driving around the French countryside visiting students. A sat nav came in very handy!) Miss Hardman, Miss Figueira and Jessica Paboudjian.

British Airways Language Flag Award Winners

Weald of Kent has been nationally recognised as the winner of the most outstanding British Airways Language Flag Award School of 2012. The current Year 10 students have collectively achieved the most passes in the UK (136). We have already awarded the top students in each tested language Olympic Park day passes, courtesy of British Airways, back in September. In addition to this, we will also receive a glass award and £100. Well done to all the students and staff involved.

Here in the MFL department we are excited about the continuation of the development of the FROG VLE. We are currently designing our MFL information pages for students to access during snow or on absence days. Watch this space!
